What is the meaning of Naija? What does Naija really mean?

Many people who now use the internet and browse through sites related to Nigeria might have been bombarded by the used of the word Naija as its becoming a commonly used slang among Nigerians in cyberspace.

So what does it really mean? Who gave that name? Well, Naija, based on what I understand as a Naijaholic is basically a nickname for Nigeria - a West African country blessed with rich human and material resources. Naija is another name for Nigeria and it's mostly used by the Nigerian internet community across the world to refer to their country and themselves.

Naija is a noun and it's the name Nigerians have given to their country that has been blessed by God in so many ways. Naija has the largest number of black people in the world and is the most populated country in Africa. Naija is the pride of the black man. Naija is God's own country and many also believe that God is a Nigerian.

For some, Naija also means a place where there is much dependence on imports rather than home made products. It means a place where there is a lot of joblessness despite the abundant oil wealth. A place where the only working and profitable sector seems to be politics rather than manufacturing or education.

Naija means many things to many Nigerians but in all, it means a place we call home. A place where millions of people can trace their ancestral origin for centuries ago. Naija is a nation blessed by the Almighty God.
